1. Be sure your thermostat is ALWAYS set properly and appropriate the season. During the winter months the thermostat should never be set below 68 degrees. In the warmer months of the spring and summer a typical setting for the thermostat is approximately 78 degrees. Also remember during the day, when no one is home, you can save money by just raising the temperature a few degrees as opposed to turning it off completely.
2. Remember to keep the fan in the "ON" position. This not only ensures that the air is constantly circulating throughout the home but also will prevent hot and cold air pockets from forming in the room. |
3. Be sure and check your air filters regularly. Cleanliness is the easiest prevention tactic against a dysfunctional system. If you have allergies or are asthmatic you should also consider either a pleated allergy filter, a media or electronic style air cleaner. Please ask the professionals at C&D Air Conditioning & Heating about a cleaner customized to meet your needs. |
4. Though the natural light of the sun has many benefits, it can also be extremely expensive and a detriment to the operation of your cooling system. Keeping the shades drawn will reduce the exposure to radiant heat, consequently reduce your overall expense of your heating and cooling. |
5. Make sure that grills and vents go without obstruction. Arranging your furniture so that’s all output vents flow free from obstruction will allow your system to operate to it's maximum potential. |
6. Keep unnecessary heat away from your thermostats! Lamps, stereo equipment, computers, televisions, etc. generate excessive heat, heat that affects the efficiency of your heating system. |
7. Make sure your home is airtight! By adding insulation to the outside walls and sealing cracks in your windows and doors this will prevent air from leaking outside and you should see a great difference in your energy spending bills.
8. Recently, The Department of Energy announced new energy tax savings for homeowners for 2006-2007 who chose to upgrade their home's gas/oil furnace, boiler, heat pump or water heater. If yours has been upgraded or you would like to upgrade you could receive a tax incentive of up to $500. Please call C&D Air Conditioning & Heating for a consultation today. We can be reached at 972-843-3700. |
9. At least once a year, be sure your air conditioning system receives a preventative maintenance check up. C & D Air Conditioning & Heating is proud to offer a Preventative Maintenance Plan that will not provide a professional check up and cleaning but also give you peace at mind for the year to come!

10. Install a fan in the attic. The attic can be an extreme source of heat, usually between 140 and 150 degrees, causing an overload on your cooling system and leaving you uncomfortable. Controlled thermostatically, an attic fan will decrease the hot air buildup and overall save you money! Call C&D Air Conditioning & Heating at 972-843-3700 for a consultation today. |
11. As much as possible, use your electric appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines and dryers etc. during the evening hours. Electric rates are higher during the day hours. |
12. Weatherizing your home can also help save on your energy cost. With just a few hundred dollars, you can save thousands in the end . For example, caulking your windows and weather-stripping the doors will prevent air leaking from both the inside and outside of your home. |
